Devastated walls

Need a little break. And while I'm sitting around, I'll do a second quisck update today.

I've destroyed the walls a little bit :D
See for Yourselfs :D

The third pic shows the part of the wall preapred for another object. Maybe I'll do it today :D

New meshes

First thing. I had two (or three) days of delay, becouse there was some work to do. Yeah, I know, lame excuse. But here's a new update on the map.

I'm currently working on the walls around the City. It's in the first stadium of evolution. Lokks like block, and it's red. Doesn't look like an old wall yet. But I'm working on it.

Here's a little photo shoot.

There will be a next update soon.

The Concept pt.1

This entry will be about the main concept of "The Core".

The main idea of the game is to make it as flexible as possible.
It's a concept inspired by the open source Linux systems.

It came to me, that today's games are BIG. In the meaning that they need a lot of disk space.
And that there are game modes that we don't when we start to play a game.

The idea is that this game gives You the opportunity to decide what do You want to play.

And here's the plan. The thing You must do to play is to download the core of the game.
It will be a browser-like application which holds Your game settings and statistics. And has a build-in demo map. I want it to be a light weight program.

"I wanna play death match on more maps. This demo sucks, but the gameplay rocks. I want more !"

So, the next part of the concept is that if You only want to play the death match mod, You only download (through the core program) the death match plug-in.

So, if You don't want to play death match, and want to play in the story mode You know what to do.

It's only a concept. The game doesn't exist yet.

This was the main idea of the game. It's not everything, but let's keep a mystery :P

Hope that all of You could understand what's the concept about :)

See You in the next entry :D

New objects and modifications

I've added a new mesh to the map.
I know, it's nothing spectacular. But I like it :D

Looks crapy, becouse it's a fresh idea and I'm working on it.

I've added the missing "walls" to the "blue boxes". Yay me :P

And added modifications one of the "boxes". Now it looks ore like a building. Has windows and an entrance :P I'm doing my best. Got to read a tutorial or something about architecture :P

One down, six more to go.
Next time, maybe I should do the walls ?

Here's an overview of my work.

And that's all for today's news flash :P

First update

Ok. Here's my first update of my work.
The map (codemane : "Lost City") is in development.
The to screen shots show what was done until this day.

Today I've only modified a little bit the blue blocks (houses/buildings in the future).
I've extruded the faces to crate the walls. The next step will be to create the missing faces and then do some modelling in creating rooms.

The first one shows what was done and the second screen shot shows today's modifications.

I know that's not much. But I haven't enough time to do more.
Hope that You can magnify the pics.

There will be also:
- walls around the city (the red block are markers)
- a gate (the brown thing)
- two or four towers
- and other stuff

Here are some helpful questions:
What do You think ?
What should I change ?
What should add ?

First time :D

Hello.
I'm new with this, so forgive me my mistakes :P

Now, let's get to the point of origin.
The first thing. Who am I and why am I here.
I'm a guy, from Poland, a Linux user. I'm here to show You some of my work.
What work ? It's above top secret :P
I now, lame joke.
As an open source fan, and a gamer I've always wanted to create my own game.
I suck in programming, so I'm doing the visual part of the game.
I co-work on a GNU/GPL game with the working title "The Core"
The plan is to create a free First Person Shooter.
More about the plans in next entries.

And now, about my tools.
PC spec's:
Athlon XP 2000+ CPU
Asus A7V8X-X MotherBoard
1 GB DDR RAM
Ati Radeon 9800 SE

I know, that my PC is almost a piece of crap. But I'm happy that I have something to work on.

I use Ubuntu 8.04 an Blender 2.48.
I'm not a pro with Blender, I have a lot of things to learn in it.
So my modelling skills are low, and the map looks now like a pile of boxes.

I think that's all for now. Screen shots and renders in the next entry.
